The group will meet weekly for six weeks and are facilitated by a licensed clinical therapist. New groups form approximately every eight weeks. Call for dates and times. Sessions may include special topics and unique ways to approach grief and mourning in non-traditional ways – from walking to journaling to scrap-booking. Call 943-210-6988 for information.
What is Grief
Grief is indeed a natural and complex emotional response to loss, encompassing a range of feelings such as sadness, anger, confusion, and even guilt. It can arise from various types of loss, including the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or significant life changes. Everyone experiences grief differently, and it can manifest in various ways, including physical symptoms, changes in behavior, or shifts in mood.
It's important to remember that there is no "right" way to grieve, and it often takes time to navigate through the feelings and find a sense of healing. Healing happens gradually; it can’t be forced or hurried—and there is no “normal” timetable for grieving. Some people start to feel better in weeks or months. For others, the grieving process is measured in years. Whatever your grief experience, it’s important to be patient with yourself and allow the process to naturally unfold.
How Can Group Therapy Help
Grief counseling can help by:
Accepting your grief for what it is, a normal response to your loss
Provide an environment in which you can freely talk and be heard, even if you want to talk about the same things over and over
Share your thoughts and experiences about your loved one
Process your thoughts and feelings to help you to let go of the pain without letting go of the person
Provides specific information about grief and loss
Offers suggestions on how to deal with grief that have helped other people.
Therapy Services
Individual Sessions
There can be tremendous value in talking through your ideas, challenges, and feelings with a therapist who has good listening skills, compassion, intuition, empathy, educational training and expertise to work collaboratively with you to increase your ability to constructively self-reflect, increase your self-understanding and self acceptance.
Couples /Family Sessions
Long-lasting, fulfilling relationships take work. Couples treatment can be useful in times of difficulty as well as when things are going well. It can help improve communication, increase constructive strategies for dealing with conflict, and help you sort through ambivalence about major life decisions or changes. If you decide to work with me as a couple, my goal will be to strive to facilitate communication between you in a non-judgmental, unbiased manner.
Stress Relief Therapy
Through guided meditation or guided imagery, mindfulness exercises, and proper breathing, experience a new form of relaxation to reduce stress. The mind and body are complementary with each other. By producing a state of tranquil inner peace, you will create a sense of calm, and balance. This may be indicated for sleep problems / insomnia, anxiety, depression, and can assist with managing mild to moderate pain, as well as other physical conditions that can be exacerbated by stress.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy does not require you to talk about specific traumatic events. The neuroscience of trauma has changed drastically over the years. Somatic (body) work helps with acknowledging stuck emotions and help to really work through pain. Recovery is obtainable and trauma survivors like you can work through the effects of trauma and learn how to manage symptoms of PTSD.
Grief and Loss Therapy
When a person loses something or someone valuable to them, feelings of grief can be overbearing. Grief can leave a person feeling sad, hopeless, isolated, irritable, and numb by affecting them mentally, emotionally, and physically. It’s important to understand that healing from grief is a process and everyone copes with this emotion differently. Psychotherapy can help you reduce feelings of blame or guilt. This form of therapy can help you explore and process your emotions, and help with developing coping skills.
