Why did you decide to become a counselor?
My particular interest in counseling stems from my inclined desire and ability to see the good potential in people. I appreciate and respect a person’s resilience and optimism to seek help in counseling. Resilience requires persistence, so counseling is a good opportunity for people to reflect on their past experiences and explore their feelings and values. Clients place a great deal of vulnerability and responsibility in seeking help from professional counselors. Therefore, I am fond of helping clients change their frame of mind, thereby improving their experience of life. And I appreciate providing support and guidance when it may be hard for anyone else to help.
My Approach
The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work are integrated evidence-based practices that are individualized to each client with a holistic client-centered, collaborative, and culturally sensitive approach. I utilize various techniques and skills drawn from recognized therapeutic modalities, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic, Christian Counseling, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-centered Therapy.
My Focus
I specialize in providing therapy to adolescents and teenagers, adults, families, and groups. My expertise includes crisis counseling and stabilization, trauma, PTSD, Grief and loss, addictive behaviors, domestic and intimate partner violence, treating symptoms related to anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders, religion and spirituality, and mood disorders. My unique approach is to just meet you where you are.
My Communication Style
I utilize active listening techniques, reflecting, and ask open-ended questions during psychotherapy. Active listening involves showing interest in what my clients have to say, acknowledging that I am listening and understanding, and engaging with you throughout the conversation.
